Winchester Model 21 – 1933 TRAP, VENT RIB, CODY LETTER, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1933, 12 Gauge, 7lbs. 6oz., Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 1/2″, DAH 2 1/4″, DAC 1 5/8″ Serial Number: 8083 The Model 21 is an American icon, and its reputation is well deserved. A strikingly handsome gun with the finest steels, gunners in the know have utilized the Winchester M21 in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure. IF YOU LIKE HEAVY LOADS FOR PHEASANTS OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS THE GUN. With only 30,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any original Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm. This Model 21, SN8083 built in 1933, is a fine example of a special-order Winchester Model 21 Trap Grade fully documented by Cody Firearms Museum (see attached Cody information sheet). 1933 was the first year Winchester catalogued the Trap Grade which came from the factory with more figured wood, a factory installed butt pad, and barrels with a raised matted rib. This gun was ordered with the optional ventilated rib which also included a longer “Trap” style beavertail forend. THE BARRELS, ACTION, FOREND METAL, AND TRIGGER GUARD ARE ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES. THE WOOD HAS HAD FINISH ADDED OVER TIME. The 30” vent rib barrels retain 98% factory blue and have clean shiny bores, tight ribs, 3” chambers, mid bead, and are choked IC/M (altered from the original F/F chokes). The action retains 65% factory blue, excellent screws, single selective trigger, ejectors, and excellent mechanics with the barrels tight on the hinge pin and breech face. Buy this gun with confidence, a VFI CERTIFIED GUN with a 90-day mechanical warranty! We stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all parts for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, a $450 service in our shop. The trigger guard retains 94% factory blue and is worn mostly on the long tang. The wood is nicely figured on both sides of the stock, and the factory checkering is superb. The original factory pad was mushroomed and rock-hard, so we replaced it with another Winchester pad. You will see in the Cody info sheet that the gun was listed as a pistol grip stock but wears a straight grip stock that we believe to be original to the gun. The gun was returned to the factory for chamber work in 1947 and this may be when the chambers became 3”. We measured all the barrel wall thicknesses ahead of the chamber and the gun is safe to shoot 3” shells. The chokes were opened to more useful IC/M chokes. Because of the chokes being Modified or less, you can shoot hard non-toxic ammunition through this gun, if it is quality ammo with a fully protective shot cup. The best duck gun for ducks over decoys would be IC/M chokes shooting high density tungsten shot…just do the research and you will agree! Hard non-toxic pellets pattern tighter than lead through the same chokes. If you want to hunt upland game, doves, waterfowl, any other game, or shoot clay targets with the most potent ammunition or with the most recognized of the iconic American double guns, this gun is priced right and ready for another 92 years of service. Mechanically perfect in every way and made in the early years of the Model 21, this is a shotgun that will increase in value as you enjoy it use. If you want restoration or alterations on this gun we can get it done with little wait time. See specifications below. Thanks for looking, and don’t let this one get away.
