Winchester Model 12 28 Ga – SKEET GRADE, RARE DELUXE WOOD, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1958, 28 Gauge, 7lbs. 7oz., Choke SK, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 5/8", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 1681922 The game of skeet popularized the idea of a 4-gauge competition using the 12ga, 20ga, 28ga, and .410 bore shotguns for competitive shoots. Winchester had already offered their popular Model 12 in the 12ga. and 20ga. SKEET for years and had introduced the little .410 bore in the Model 42 in 1934. It made sense that in 1937 Winchester introduced their new 28ga. SKEET to the Model 12 lineup. The 28ga. Model 12 Skeet gun could only be had with a 26” matted rib barrel in the 1937 catalogue offerings. The M12 28ga. is a very hard to find gun, as they made less than 3000 M12’s in 28ga. between 1937 and 1959 when they were discontinued from production. Most Model 12 guns you see in 28ga. are not factory guns at all, having been changed from a 20ga. and marketed as original to unsuspecting buyers. There are several features that allow us to definitively know if the M12 is the real deal, and this fine Winchester Model 12, sn1681922 made in 1958, is a genuine Winchester Model 12 shipped from the factory as a 28ga. gun. Built during the second to last year of production, the gun is gorgeous, with upgraded Deluxe figured walnut, and nearly 100% gorgeous blue finish on the receiver, trigger guard, and barrel. The screws are all perfect, the bore is mirror bright, and the hand rubbed oil finish on the wood is superb. The gun has been restored by Simmons Gun Specialties, who specialize in Model 12 restorations) with crisp lettering on the barrels, no pitting or polishing marks, a great restoration. This genuine factory 28ga. Model 12 is a very sought after, collectible, and shootable small-bore Winchester. They are usually offered at very high prices. This gun is in beautiful condition, and we are offering it at a very affordable price allowing you to finally get your hands on a Winchester Model 12 28ga. skeet gun. A great gun at the skeet field or chasing upland birds in your favorite haunts, she will serve you and future generations well.
