Winchester M21 20 Ga – TRAP/SKEET, 1933, ULTRA LIGHT, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1933, 20 Gauge, 6lbs. 6oz., Chokes IC/M, LOP 13 7/8", DAH 2", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 4373 Most are aware the Winchester Model 21is a gun of superior strength. If you like heavy loads for tough birds or high-volume shooting, this is your gun. You can shoot the heaviest magnum 2 ¾” shells in a Model 21 with no concerns. With the chokes on this gun, you can shoot steel or other, MORE EFFECTIVE, hard non-toxic shot like tungsten or Hevi-Shot. From 1930 to 1943 they only made 1900 20-gauge guns in all grades, most of them Standard Grades or Skeet Grades. The Trap Grade was only produced from 1933 to 1939, making this Trap Grade a real find, with likely less than 300 ever made. This gun, sn4373 built in 1933, is a highly desirable Trap Grade stocked with nicely figured feather-crotch walnut. THE BARRELS AND ACTION ON THIS GUN RETAIN FACTORY ORIGINAL BLUE, a rare thing with Model 21’s in today’s marketplace. Most have been refinished in that black, dark finish on the action that just isn’t right for a pre-war Model 21. This pre-war gun has about 90% of the charcoal blue still intact on the action, 95% factory blue on the barrels, about 97% charcoal blue on the trigger guard. The factory original wood has been restored with a hand rubbed Truoil finish and is gorgeous. She is a nice handling little shotgun weighing just 6lbs. 6oz (at least a 1/2 pound lighter than most M21 twenty-gauge guns) that would be awesome for upland birds over dogs or in the thick stuff, or for clays games at your favorite gun club. The 26” barrels are choked IC/M as marked. The Trap Grade was said to have special attention to boring, chokes, and finish. The “Trap-Skeet” was a skeet choked Trap Grade. If you look at the product code on the Cody Firearms Information sheet it is coded as a “Trap-Skeet”. At 92 years old this Model 21 is in remarkable condition having been well cared for, with perfect mechanics (this is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, the action and forend iron having been stripped to their smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed to shiny metal, all parts inspected for function and integrity, lubricated, and reassembled, a $450 service in our shop and carrying a 90 day mechanical warranty), mirror bores, tight ribs, barrels tight on face and hinge pin like a new gun, excellent screws…just a little carry wear on the bottom of the receiver as one would expect. The wood-to-metal fit is superb, no cracks or repairs, and the checkered butt is still intact from the factory…all the characteristics that set it apart from the others offered for sale. This is a hard to find, high condition, mostly original, Model 21 that matches the Cody Firearms Museum info sheet (included with the sale), with the exception of the chokes. This was made as a “salesman’s sample” and is factory marked IC/M, so must have changed specs before the gun was produced. You can search the entire internet, and you won’t find another 6lb. 6oz gun for sale. They don’t show up hardly ever, so don’t miss out…write the check! Thanks for looking.
