Historic and rare Winchester model 1897 riot gun from the Berekely Police Department from 1912. Near mint.
Description: I AM SURPRISED THIS GUN HAS NOT SOLD. I LOWERED THE PRICE. THIS GUN IS ORIGINAL AND HAS NOT BEEN REDONE. IT SPENT IT'S LIFE AT THE RESERVE ARMORY OF THE BERKELEY POLICE DEPARTMENT. I'M RAISING THE PRICE BACK UP AND WILL KEED THE GUN IF NO ONE WANTS IT. This riot gun comes from the Berkeley California Police Department and was made in 1912. The gun is near mint for its age and must have spent most of its working life in a gun locker. In 1912 the Chief of Police was August Vollmer considered the "The Father of Modern Policing" (1909-1923). You can "bing or goggle" examples of Berkeley's police guns to find other examples of the tag they used. I can also email you some. Vollmer did the following: 1. First to put police on bicycles. 2. First to put the police on motorcycles and cars. 3. First to put in call boxes. 4. First to put radios in patrol vehicles. 5. First to hire minority police officers (1919) 6. First to hire female police officers (1923) 7. First to establish a criminal data base. 8. Helped U.C. Berkeley start there first Criminal Justice Program 9. Helped U.C.
