1928 Winchester Model 12 in 16 Gauge w/ Solid Rib
Description: This is an all matching and original early production 16 gauge Winchester Model 12, with a 2 & 9/16ths" chamber and a 28" inch solid rib barrel choked "Full". It is serial number 547050 which makes it's date of production 1928. The barrel is stamped "Nickel Steel" and has the desirable solid rib. The bore in this Model 12 is minty and bright, with no pitting, dents, bulges, or imperfections of any kind. The original American Walnut stock set is the early production variation with the long wrist and it is free from any cracks or repairs. The original Winchester branded buttplate is still intact and in good condition. The blue finish is all factory original and is very good on the receiver, but shows some heavy finish loss on the barrel assembly. This is very common on early production guns as the "Nickel Steel" used by Winchester for the barrel parts did not hold the factory blue finish very well. This was later remedied by the change to "Winchester Proof Steel" in barrel manufacturing. Everything works on this Model 12 100% like it did when it left the factory. The action is smooth and locks up tight with no slop. The trigger, safety, and bolt release controls all work perfectly. This Model 12 also takes down with ease and goes back together tight, just as it was designed to. This is a very nice honest and all-original early Model 12 in a configuration that is hard to find unmolested. If you have been looking for one of these American classics for your collection that has some character, this example would be a great choice.
