SAWED OFF Antique Winchester 1887 SHOTGUN 12 Gauge
Description:
SAWED OFF Antique Winchester 1887 SHOTGUN 12 Gauge
Made in 1891
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1887 Lever Action Shotgun, made 1891 in New Haven, Connecticut. This model saw just under 65,000 made, and those under serial number 63953 are made prior to 1899, making this an antique and requiring no FFL.
These guns were designed by the famous John Moses Browning and are considered the first successful lever action shotgun. Unfortunately, they were fast eclipsed by pump action shotguns. They came in both 10 and 12 gauges, and full lengths of 30-32 inch barrels and “riot” length of 20 inches. The riot length version is considerably scarcer. Magazine capacity was 5.
As one can imagine, these higher capacity shotguns, especially those either made shorter at the factory or cut down, made great companions for those on guard duty, riding shotgun on a coach, and for law enforcement. Perhaps other, more nefarious characters also found them useful. Of course, who can forget short, pistol-gripped version that the Terminator used? This one has been cut to 19 inches.
The condition is fair. Traces of original blue is found on the barrel and magazine tube. A weathered patina makes up the balance. The markings are clear and legible. The stock has a few minor splits along the grain from weathering. The right barrel panel is absent from the gun. The bore is smooth and serviceable. The action is strong. Here is a neat shotgun!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 19 inches.
Caliber: 12 Gauge
Overall condition as seen in photos.
