c1892 mfr. 10 GAUGE WINCHESTER Model 1887 Lever Action SHOTGUN Antique Popular Coach and Law Enforcement Gun!
Description: c1892 mfr. 10 GAUGE WINCHESTER Model 1887 Lever Action SHOTGUN Antique
Popular Coach and Law Enforcement Gun!
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1887 Lever Action Shotgun in 10 Gauge, made in 1892 in New Haven, Connecticut. These were designed by the famous John Moses Browning and are considered the first successful lever action shotgun. Unfortunately, they were fast eclipsed by pump action shotguns. They came in both 10 and 12 gauges, and full lengths of 30-32 inch barrels and “riot” length of 20 inches.
As one can imagine, these higher capacity shotguns, especially those either made shorter at the factory or cut down, made great companions for those on guard duty, riding shotgun on a coach, and for law enforcement. Perhaps other, more nefarious characters also found them useful. Of course, who can forget the short, pistol-gripped version that the Terminator used?
The overall condition is very good. Strong, crisp action. The bore is smooth and semi-reflective: it has clearly been used with black powder and there is light pitting throughout. Sturdy walnut stock with average wear containing only minor dents and dings. Clear markings throughout. A hard-to-find Winchester 1887 in 10 gauge in good shape!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
