Westley Richards 20 Ga – DROPLOCK, SINGLE TRIGGER, WOW! vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Westley Richards, 1905/1997, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 10oz., Chokes IC/F, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2", DAC 1 3/8" Serial Number: G6190 This gun has an interesting connection to David Trevallion, a master gunsmith working out of Maine and originally from Purdeys of London. Trevallion did some stock work on the gun as evidenced by his card found in the hollow of the buttstock. Additionally, there are a few stickers applied to the inside of the case that indicate Trevallion and the famed author Michael McIntosh were likely drinking Scotch and both of their names are signed in ink on one of the labels. The gun was marketed through VonLengerke and Antoine of Chicago as noted on the left barrel and label in the case. Lots of interesting details of an elegant Westley Richards. Introduced in 1897, the Westley Richards hand-detachable drop lock won many patents and is known for strength and reliability. The action had no pins or screws showing through the sides of the action like other boxlock guns. The hand detachable locks are very simple with only six component parts (see attached photo). If you take the locks out for cleaning or to disable your gun for safety or transport, they are impossible to put back into the gun incorrectly. The hand detachable lock gun allows you to insert replacement locks in seconds, and without tools, in the unlikely event of a problem. If you are out in wet weather or take a spill in the creek you can easily remove the lock to dry, clean, and lubricate. The Westley Richards Droplock is the only action that did not follow the basic boxlock or sidelock design. The Droplock gun just plain cool to own. Of course, a Westley Richards Droplock is the epitome of the English side x side, with lightweight, perfect balance, and dynamic handling characteristics that all others are measured by. This elegant example, snG6190 built in 1905, is a gorgeous gun with stunning banknote scroll, with shaded background on a naturally aged silver/grey receiver. The engraving really “pops” on the action with just traces of case color. Reproofed in Birmingham in 1997 for heavy 1-ounce loads and 2 ¾” shells and having sideclips for added strength, this gun is ready for another 119 years of service to the discerning sportsman. The most desirable 28” barrels are choked IC/F, have tight ribs, perfect bores, 99% blue, barrels tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face. The action has 80% coverage of the finest English open scroll engraving, traces of case color, hinged bottom plate, crisp single selective Westley One Trigger, strong and well-timed ejectors, the one exposed screw clean and clocked. The English walnut stocks are beautifully finished in a hand-rubbed oil and show nice figure with perfect layout through the wrist and fit perfectly to the action and metal. This is a stunning shotgun weighing just 5lbs. 10oz.and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin for dynamic handling characteristics. The butt is finished in a fine Purdey style pigskin leather covered pad that brings the utmost class to an already exceptional Westley Richards 20 bore game gun. The 14 5/16” LOP is measured from a rear position single trigger. If there were a front trigger the LOP would be 15” so the stock is not short and should be comfortable for most shooters. See specifications below. The gun is cased with Westley Richards accessories as shown. We have priced this rare gun to sell, so don’t hesitate to call! Thanks for looking.
