Westley Richards 12/20 Pair – SIDELOCK 2 GUN 4 BARREL SET, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Westley Richards, 1964, 12 Gauge; 20 Gauge, 6lbs.10oz.; 5lbs. 15oz., Chokes F/F, M/M; F/F, M/M , LOP 15 1/2", DAH 2 5/16", DAC 1 5/16" Serial Number: 19224; 19226 What an amazing find, a Westley Richards hand-detachable sidelock set comprised matching 12 and 20 gauge guns, each with their own extra set of barrels, all housed in a custom fitted motor case complete with Westley Richards label and accessories and documented by Westley Richards of Birmingham. This unusual set was built in 1964 by A.A. Brown who was doing business in a building located in the center of the Westley Richards facility and dedicated to the work of the A.A. Brown company. A.A. Brown is well known for making the very best guns in the trade that were almost always labeled by other famous gun makers including Holland & Holland, W.W. Greener, E.J. Churchill, Westley Richards, and others. You can find the A.A. Brown trademark in the action slot of both guns. These are exquisite custom-ordered guns with hand-detachable sidelock actions, gold-plated internals, engraved with the finest English banknote scroll with shaded backgrounds, almost certainly executed in house by famous engraver Les Jones. Both guns are in supreme factory original condition, with 99% finishes remaining on all metal and wood surfaces. The specifications can be found in the tables below, but the stock dimensions are near identical on both guns (dimensions at face are identical for all practical purposes), the 12ga. gun has a set of 30” F/F choked barrels and a set of 26” M/M choked barrels, the 20ga. gun has a set of 28” F/F choked barrels, and a set of 26” M/M choked barrels. The wood is highly figured Turkish walnut with a lustrous hand rubbed oil finish. Both guns retain the same amount of condition and are housed in an awesome motor case. The mechanics function to perfection, and each gun is fitted with a unique SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER. PUSHING THE TRIGGER FORWARD SETS IT TO FIRE THE LEFT BARREL FIRST. OPENING THE GUN RESETS THE TRIGGER TO FIRE RIGHT BARREL FIRST. This is a very user-friendly trigger system that allows you to instantly choose your barrel and choke on the mount. There is some correspondence with the Westley Richards representatives from 2012 in which the replacement cost is stated to be just over $133,000. In today’s world that number would exceed $200,000. This finest set of Westley Richards guns can be had for a fraction of that cost, and they are made by the most respected firm in recent British gun making history. Our gunsmiths can make any alterations you may require, including fine Purdey style leather covered pads, stock bending, or altering the existing chokes. BOTH GUNS ARE HEAVY PROOFED WITH 2 ¾” CHAMBERS FOR 3 ¼ TON LOADS AND HAVE SIDECLIPS ON ALL BARREL SETS TO ADD TO THE STRENGTH OF THE ACTIONS. An American set of this nature would have the long barrels as M/F, the short barrels as IC/M for walk up hunting. The set seems to be made for driven pheasant and driven grouse hunts. These are stunning guns in both features and condition, with modern proofs and ready for generations of use and enjoyment. It is likely you will never see another set like this one, so don’t hesitate or they will be gone!
