Stevens Model 325 Double Barrel Boxlock 12 gauge
Description: This Stevens Model 325 1st gun (serial number 19598) is in very good or better condition. It is a 12 ga with 30” chopper lump steel barrels which are choked full & full and have perfect bores. It retains about 35% original case color and 90% bright barrel blue. Wood finish is likewise about 95% without scrapes or gauges or dents but the varnish is a slightly crazed and flecking off in places. Excellent checkering and original butt plate. However, the barrels have some places where the blue is scraped off and the action and barrels both have a few corrosion spots. All in-all a very nice example of a 120-year-old gun of which only 400 made. Very few of this model survive. I thought it a rare find when I got it. Priced as a collector gun. There are two variations of the Stevens Model 325. Only 400 guns of each type were made. The 1st (produced from 1904 - 1906 with serial number up to ca. 27,000) had double bolting - there is a under bolt and bolting service on the rib extension. This feature is similar to the Remington hammer sidelock guns made on the Andrew Whitmore patent. These guns have mono-blocked steel barrels and were made in 12 and 16 gauge. Model 325 2nd variation from 1906 – 08, up to at least 70,000 are bolted by a Rotary Bolt very similar to L. C. Smith guns made on Alexander Brown’s 1887 patent that engages a square pierce in the rib extension.
