This is an excellent example of the high quality workmanship that Germany is known for. Top of barrel marked "Buhag Suhl Handwerksarbeit". Factory stock to buttplate. Fine checkering on forend and stock. Date of manufacture is March 1962. Better than average condition with nominal wear.

"Buhag" gun history can be a bit complicated because they're from East Germany before the wall came down. I found the following information on different sites:
BUHAG was a "cooperative" (uncooperative got you dead) that was set up by the communist East German government to watch over the production of guns made by the small shops in the Suhl area. The government handled the sales and shipping of all the guns becaue direct sales were illegal. Merkel, under the BUHAG name dominated as other big makers moved to West Germany, and most guns were really Merkel designs. The individual gunsmith that worked this particular gun was H. Kessel and he was from Heidersbach/Suhl. His name is on the receiver; I've attached a photo.
