Mint BRITISH Antique HUNTER SxS Percussion Shotgun
Description: Mint BRITISH Antique HUNTER SxS Percussion Shotgun Circa 1860s with Case & Rare Accoutrements Here we present an Antique Side by Side Percussion Shotgun by Hunter, made in Birmingham, England circa the mid-19th Century. This shotgun promises to be just as fine a wing shooter today as it was when it was made. It features twin tubes with a very nice Damascened pattern and “LONDON” on the center rib. The back action locks are engraved and case colored and bear the name “HUNTER”. The butt plate, barrel tang, and trigger guard are also engraved. Birmingham proof marks are located under the barrels with a “7” found in the barrel rib. The case is from William Read & Sons, located in Dock Square, Boston, Massachusetts. In 1826, William Read and Edward Lane opened a gun shop in Boston. After the death of Mr. Lane is 1849, William Read took over the business and in 1854, changed the name to William Read & Sons. The store specialized in military arms and sporting goods. During the Civil War, Read’s supplied the Union Troops with guns and ammunition. This cased set includes the following accoutrements: a stitched leather shot pouch and measuring spout by James Dixon & Sons, an embossed brass powder flask, cleaning rod, patch punch, percussion cap tins, nipple wrench, and even a wood & brass telescope! This is a magnificent set that is sure to be a favorite in your collection. The overall condition is fine. The barrels’ Damascened pattern is strong. The case colors are vibrant throughout.
