Merkel -- Luxury Grade 203E Real Gold Inlay Hand-Detachable Sidelock Ejector --- 12 Gauge With Zeiss Optic & Claw Mounts


Description:
Merkel "Bockdoppelflinte" (over/under shotgun) model 203 E: self-cocking, sidelock system (Holland & Holland), sidelocks removable by crank screw (without tools). Breech: Kersten breech with trigger. Very stiff action; has seen minimal use, if at all. Safety: trigger safety by manual operation of the safety slide on the butt neck, independently acting hammer safety by sear rods. Case ejection: with coil spring ejector. Barrel length 28 inches, clear, sharp and clean. Caliber 12/70; full choke upper barrel, half choke lower barrel. Comes with the original claw quick-detach mounts and Carl Zeiss 6x42 glass with "T" the preferred German reticle. Manufactured 01/1980, in the German Democratic Republic. Stock: Walnut quality class "Halbluxus I" (Half-Luxury), pistol grip with steel cap with arabesque engraving - model designation in real gold inlaid, two-piece forearm - titanium-nitrated screws. Engraving: English arabesques with cut-out background. 99% condition. 

Acquired by me while stationed in Germany several years ago. Very likely originally made for a senior Party member. There are multiple Merkel 203's for sale online - but none of this grade and quality and certainly not at this price point. Blue Book of Gun Values lists Merkel 203 (basic model -- not upgraded luxury) at a value of $8300+ for a 98%.
