Westley Richards 12 Bore Drop Lock Ejector - No. 2 of a Pair – 2-3/4”
Description: Handsome and somewhat rare 12 bore Westley Richards Drop Lock boxlock ejector with great finish, sharp engraving, and highly figured French walnut stock. The flagship of the Westley Richards line. The scalloped action is profusely engraved with the Westley Richards name engraved in gold in a flowing banner on each side of the action. Double triggers, auto safety, automatic ejectors and about 85% subdued residual case color. The detachable engine turned locks may be removed for cleaning or replacement by the simple push of a button which will open the hinged floor plate. Presented in its oak & leather case with maker’s labels and accessories including oil bottle, 2-piece mahogany cleaning rod, tool heads, Westley Richards snap caps and a key! Made in 1912 for Sir William Nelson, Bart., owner of the Nelson Line. This drop lock serial number 17412 is No. 2 of a pair. Comes with a factory letter, certificate and other information on the gun's provenance. Weighs 6lb 7oz making it easy to carry for a day afield. The 28” nitro steel replacement barrels were made by Westley Richards in 1938. They were reproofed for 2-3/4” shotshells and 1-1/4oz shot. The barrel bluing is in very good condition and the bores are shiny. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib on which is inscribed “Westley Richards 23 Conduit St. London Gun Maker To his Majesty George V”. The right barrel is bored 0.736 with a constriction of 0.007 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrel is bored 0.737 and has a constriction of 0.035 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. The half pistol grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut with a combination of rich, dark smokey figure and fiddleback. The forearm has a buffalo horn tip and a Deeley latch. Checkering is crisp and the gloss finish is in very good condition with only a few minor handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14” including a 1/2” checkered ebony butt pad by 1-1-5/8” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot. This is a very high condition example of the signature Flagship double gun of the Westley Richards line showing off their manufacturing prowess and innovative gun making. Ordered by the well-respected owner of the Nelson steamship line it has all the Edwardian bells and whistles. Light weight and great handling it makes a very desirable upland gun for the discerning sportsman. Very attractively priced. NOTE: The photographs are part of the description.
