Arthur Howell Lightweight Boxlock Ejector – Made “Between the Wars” - Long Length-of-Pull – Great Handling
Description: *** SOLD *** Arthur Howell lightweight boxlock ejector made “Between the Wars” circa 1930 – 35. Very nice condition Anson & Deeley boxlock originally manufactured as a 2-inch gun but re-proofed in London in 1994 for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors notwithstanding to the contrary low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are being imported by Game Bore and ARMUSA and are also available from RST Shells. Barrel bluing and stock finishes have been professionally redone. Straight grained but nicely figured European walnut stock and forearm. Rose & scroll engraving with some residual case coloring and maker’s name on both sides of the action. Automatic ejectors, double triggers and auto safety. Presented in its Brady leather case with maker’s label and oil bottle. Weighs just 5lb 7oz making it very easy to carry for a day afield. The 26” nitro steel barrels, originally with 2-inch chambers, have been re-chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells with a London proof date of 1994. They are topped by a slender solid flat raised rib which is inscribed “Arthur Howell & Co. Gun & Rifle Makers. Birmingham.” The bluing is in excellent condition and the bores are shiny and bright. The right barrel is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.007 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. The left barrel is bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.022 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. Great choking for a quick and sure handling upland double. The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured straight grained European walnut. The finish has been professionally redone and is nearly perfect with only a few very minor handling marks. The checkering is sharp. Stock dimensions are 15” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Cast off slightly for the righthand shot. Imagine hunting the uplands for quail, grouse or woodcock with a quick handling 12 bore in your hands. This nicely balanced boxlock is a lethal tool for the experienced upland gunner. And it has a long 15” length-of-pull. We don’t see these very often. Bird season is just around the corner. Better move quickly on this one. Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and require a copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense. SOLD |
