We have to remember that in the late 1800\'s gunmakers did not consider the boxlock to be a cheaper or lesser design but just a "new" design. Keeping this in mind, during this period the best makers would naturally put every bit as much of their skill and craftsmanship into building them as they did their sidelocks. The boxlock was not at that time considered a lesser or entry level shotgun or rifle as they later became for many makers.

EJ Churchill from 1896 ~ Experience a True London "BEST" boxlock
Description: Boxlocks - Completed in 1896 this boxlock is exceptional in every way. The fit and finish on this gun is outstanding with some of the best fine scroll work you will find on any gun in England. The wood is of the highest-grade English walnut. We cleaned the gun, and the inside is about as pretty as the outside with the fancy safety sears with every piece highly polished and perfectly fitted. This is perhaps the highest quality boxlock we have ever had in the shop. We have to remember that in the late 1800\'s gunmakers did not consider the boxlock to be a cheaper or lesser design but just a "new" design. Keeping this in mind, during this period the best makers would naturally put every bit as much of their skill and craftsmanship into building them as they did their sidelocks.
