Description: Early Vintage SXS 12 GA Hammer Shotgun by N.R. Davis & Co. SN 49! Just acquired from a nearby estate in Connecticut is this very fine EARLY 12 GA hammer shotgun made by the N.R. Davis Co. of Norwich, Connecticut. The Davis Co. was a well known, established maker in the CT River Valley and its reputation grew from these early shotguns to hammer shotguns to hammerless variety into the 1900s. This specimen is the earliest we have found – ALL MATCHING SN 49 on all parts (no alpha prefixes as in later arms by the company. Davis was taken over by the Warner Arms Co and produced more arms under that name. The shotgun has 28” barrels, two triggers and although used still has the large majority of its blued finish on barrels and rib (fading a bit but mostly there). Also the receiver has majority of its case colors and likewise the case colors have faded some what but again all there. It appears that the shotgun has steel barrels. The action is very smooth and locks up well. The bores are excellent. It appears also that it is choked FULL and FULL. Regarding age I would say it was made just past turn of century and not antique but C&R eligible.. The stocks are solid with some wear but the checking is still vibrant. There is some dried oil residue in concealed places which we will clean before shipping. For the collector of American made sxs shotguns this early Davis would make a welcome addition to any collection- especially with this low serial number.
