KONRAD BURGER Side x Side Rifle & Shotgun CAPE GUN Beautifully Engraved and Carved 19TH Century Hunting Gun From GERMANY!
Description: KONRAD BURGER Side x Side Rifle & Shotgun CAPE GUN Beautifully Engraved and Carved 19TH Century Hunting Gun From GERMANY! Here we present an antique Side x Side Rifle & Shotgun Cape Gun, manufactured circa the late-19th Century in Germany. A cape gun is a side-by-side double barreled firearm in which one barrel is rifled and the other is a smooth bore. The hunter would use the rifled barrel for large game and use the smooth bore to shoot shotgun shells at smaller animals. The gun has two triggers to use either barrel as needed. Cape guns made in Germany and Austria usually have the rifled barrel on the right side (as is this one), while British made cape guns are usually reversed. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead in addition to put food on the table or a trophy on the wall. The barrel is marked “KONRAD BURGER IN NEUMARKT. OPF.”. Konrad Burger was a gun maker working out of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, in Bavaria, Germany in the mid to late 19th century. This combination rifle/shotgun is neatly engraved throughout with game and domestic animals such as pheasant, fox, hare, red stag, and setter amidst gorgeous and intricate floral scroll. The stock has been carved with a large red stag eating from a low-hanging branch on the left side of the butt stock. The wrist and splinter forearm have been hand-checkered, and the wrist checkering flows into a decorative scroll. The right barrel is the rifled barrel with a bore diameter at the muzzle of 11mm (about .43 inches) and chamber diameter of 13.25mm (about .52 inches). The rifle’s trigger is single set for precision shooting. The left barrel is smooth and made for 20-gauge shotgun shells. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a dark gray patina. The stock is in very good shape with most of the carving intact. The rifled bore is in great shape, clean with strong rifling. The smooth bore is clean with a couple dings. The actions are excellent. The set trigger is crisp. Here is a wonderful example of Old World Germanic craftsmanship in this engraved Cape gun by Konrad Burger of Bavaria! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29 inches. Caliber: 11mm Rifle beside 20 gauge Smoothbore Shotgun Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
