Walter Betts Waterfowler 12 Ga. Boxlock – Great Condition – Lots of Case Coloring – “Between the Wars” Manufacturing
Description: *** SOLD *** Comes with Four Boxes of Bismuth Duck Loads *** Sturdy and handsome W. Betts Waterfowler model boxlock with 3” chambers and nitro proofed in 1934 for 1-1/2 ounce loads. Made “Between the Wars” in Birmingham this fowler has loads of residual case coloring, a nicely figured stock and forearm, extractors, auto safety and side clips to handle heavy loads. Tight on face. Stamped “B.C. Grade” on the trigger guard. Weighs 8lb 1oz. *** The 30” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 3” shotshells and proofed for 1-1/2 ounce loads. They are topped by a raised solid tapered crosshatched rib with brass front bead. The bores are shiny and bright and the bluing is in very good condition with a nice patina to the finish. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “Walter Betts Maker 26 Whittal St.” and the top of the left barrel reads “St. Marys Square Birmingham England”. The right barrel is bored 0.728 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrel is also bored 0.728 and has a constriction of 0.030 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. *** The Prince of Wales pistol grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured and sturdy European walnut. Checkering is good. There are a few handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 15” including a 3/4” rubber recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** You will look long and hard to find another 3” chambered English waterfowler with 1-1/2 proofs in such pristine condition. Most of these old “fowlers” have seen years of hard use in English marshes. This is your chance to own a very capable side-by-side that can consistently kill ducks at 70 yards with Bismuth loads! Great gun for turkeys as well. *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and will need a copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense. *** Come and see this great double and other fine shotguns at the MacNab booth at the World Side-by-Side Championship & Exhibition (AKA Vintage Gunners Cup) September 7th – September 9th, 2023 at Warrington Sporting Clays in Wellsville, PA.
