Scarce DELUXE Factory Engraved MARLIN Model 1898 Slide Action SHOTGUN C&R
GRADE C 12 Gauge Pump Action SHOTGUN!
Description: Scarce DELUXE Factory Engraved MARLIN Model 1898 Slide Action SHOTGUN C&R GRADE C 12 Gauge Pump Action SHOTGUN! Here we present a C&R Grade C Factory Engraved J.M. Marlin Model 1898 Slide Action Shotgun manufactured circa the turn of the century in New Haven, Connecticut. Further seeking to compete with Winchester, Marlin introduced their first pump action shotgun in 1898. This was made to compete with the Winchester Model 1893 and the Model 1897 shotguns. Marlin hammer shotguns were lighter than their Winchester 1897 competitor and provided a clear, flat-top receiver sight line. Manufactured from 1898 to 1905, this model was Marlin's first commercially sold shotgun. Marlin manufactured an estimated 55,000 of these shotguns during their seven years of production. These Model 1898 shotguns featured exposed hammers, takedown frames and receivers which look similar to the larger caliber lever action rifles of Marlin. It came standard with a single steel bead sight, 2 3/4 inch chamber, and a full choke. The top of the barrel near the breech is marked with the two-line address and patent dates. It comes with fine scroll factory engraving with zig-zag bordering and an oval panel with ducks in a marsh scene on the left side. There is scroll engraving on the right side of the receiver and two doves in flight. The overall condition is very good+. Lovely original blue finish with some spots of scale on the receiver. The action is excellent. The bore is bright and smooth. All of the visible marks and engravings are clear and sharp. The stock is solid all around and the wrist is wrapped for stability or grip—we do not see or feel any sign of damage. This is a sweet shotgun that was clearly loved by its original owner. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 30 inches Caliber: 12 Gauge Chambers: 2-3/4 Choke: Full LOP: 13-1/2 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
