Antique MANTON Marked Percussion SINGLE BARREL 14 Gauge CONVERSION Shotgun
Early 19th Century BRITISH 14 Gauge SHOTGUN
Description: Antique MANTON Marked Percussion SINGLE BARREL 14 Gauge CONVERSION Shotgun Early 19th Century BRITISH 14 Gauge SHOTGUN Here we present an antique Manton Percussion Conversion Single Barrel Shotgun made circa the late 1810s to the early 1820s in London, England. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted when the more reliable percussion system came about. There were originally two Manton brothers, John was the elder and Joseph was the younger. John was born in 1752, and after his apprenticeship, set up shop in London in Piccadilly. John Manton was active in London from 1781 to 1834. He began making percussion weapons in 1825. The firm used the name "John Manton and Son" from 1820, though his son George Henry Manton had joined him in 1814. After John's death the family continued to operate the business into the early 20th century with some slight changes in the name. Among the apprentices he trained in gunmaking are famous names such as William Greener and John Blanch, along with his famous brother, Joseph Manton. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example sports a solid stock, despite a repair to the left side of the barrel tang and forend. A matured dark brown patina is present on the barrel. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 39-1/8 inches. Caliber: 14 Gauge Percussion Conversion (estimated) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1150 #228271 SOLD Antique: Yes |
