Joseph Lang & Son 12 Bore Bar Action Sidelock Hammergun – Highly Figured 30” Nitro Damascus Barrels – Full Coverage Engraving – Very Good Condition
Description: SOLD *** Handsome and rare Joseph Lang & Son 12 bore barlock hammergun with highly figured 30” nitro Damacus barrels and well figured French walnut stock and forearm. Full coverage engraving on action, forearm iron, and hammers. Residual case coloring on action sides and bottom and forearm iron. The rebounding hammers sit below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked and the action can be opened when they are cocked. Double triggers and extractors. Tight on face and functions properly. Lang no. 7462 was made in 1889 – 90 and weighs 6lb 7oz. Presented in its leather case with maker’s label. You just don't see many Lang barlock hammerguns. *** The 30” nitro Damascus barrels are highly figured and chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “Joseph Lang & Son. 22 Cockspur St. Pall Mall. London”. The bores are shiny and bright and the browning on the outside is in very good condition with only a few minor scratches. The right barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.004 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is bored 0.736 and has a constriction of 0.013 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.031. Great choking for clays and game. *** The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured rich dark French walnut. The traditional flat top checkering is crisp and has been refreshed. There are a few minor handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14-1/8” including a very thin horn buttplate by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot. If desired length of pull can be increased to 15” by removing (and saving) the horn butt plate and replacing it with a thicker recoil pad. *** This is a very nice hammergun made at the end of the 19th century by a top tier London maker and it has been well cared for during its life. Wonderful condition mechanically and cosmetically. You will be proud to uncase it at the range and to carry it during a day afield. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to own a London Best hammergun! *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.
