Iver Johnson 16-Gauge SxS
Description: Iver Johnson manufactured its Hammer Forged model side-by-side in Fitchburg, Massachusetts from 1936 -1941. As with its predecessor the Hercules model (1924-1936) and the more expensive Skeeter (1933-1943), its reputation for shoot-ability, durability, and attractiveness has endured. This 16-gauge has 28-inch barrels with 2-3/4-inch chambers. Both barrels are choked Modified (.018”) and the bore diameters of both are .658” measured at 9 inches from the breech. The outside diameter at the muzzle of the right barrel is .740” and the left .745”. The wall thicknesses of the right barrel at 9 inches from the muzzle are (top/side/bottom) .043/.045/.048, and at the middle of the barrel are .047/.049/.052. The wall thicknesses of the left barrel are .050/.051/.046 and .055/.042/.048, respectively. The bores are bright. The exteriors of the barrels are without pitting, dents, or other flaws, as refinished using the traditional slow-rust-blue process. The original finish on the receiver is faded and rubbed on the bottom and lower sides due to normal usage. The wood is attractive, strong, and properly maintained, with the natural oils having been restored through the application of a hand-rubbed stock-oil finish. The LOP is 14-1/4 inches to the end of the original buttplate. The DAC is 1-7/8” and the DAH is 2-3/4”. The cast is neutral. The gun weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces. It is on-face and locks up tightly. All serial numbers, 39290, match. The listed price of the gun does not include shipping costs paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt. This shotgun has been fired on a number of occasions on the range using standard factory target shells. However, as for any vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing. The gun carries a 30-day warranty, during which Doublegun Preservation, LLC will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and all shipping cost. Please do not hesitate to call Steve at 703-625-4830 with questions. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
