Ithaca NIG 12-Gauge Hammer Gun, 28” English-Twist Steel Barrels, Mfg. 1901
Description: This Ithaca NIG (New Ithaca Gun) 12-gauge exposed-hammer shotgun, which was manufactured in 1901, is restored to a condition similar to what it would have been in after a couple of years use by the original owner. This gun is not only ready to take its place back in the field, but has been there. The Ithaca NIG is on the short list of classic American 19th century hammer guns for two primary reasons. First, the Ithaca NIG and its immediate predecessor, the Baker Model, launched and for two decades sustained what is today one of America’s major firearms manufactures. Second, Ithaca hammer guns are unique in that they are the only box-lock American hammer shotguns manufactured in significant numbers in the 19th century. Approximately 35,200 NIG hammer guns were made. The low-circular hammers on the NIG drop below the sight plane when cocked. The 28-inch English-twist steel barrels on this gun have 2-3/4-inch chambers and are both choked skeet (.005). The bore diameters at 9-inches from the breech are both .720 inches. The wall thicknesses of the right barrel at 9 inches from the muzzle are (top/side/bottom) .041/.041/.044 inches, and at the middle of the barrel are .038/.048/.045. The wall thicknesses of the left barrel are .047/.041/.037 and .048/.040/.038, respectively. The LOP from the front trigger to the end of a 3/4-inch modern recoil pad is 14-1/2 inches. The DAC is 1-7/8 inches, the DAH is 3 inches, and the cast is neutral. The gun weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces. The right trigger pulls at 5 pounds and the left at 4 pounds. All serial numbers, 68078, match. The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt. This gun has been fired on multiple occasions using shells made by RST Corp in Pennsylvania for Damascus-barreled guns. However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, especially one almost 120 years old, it is strongly recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her gunsmith before firing. The gun carries a 30-day warranty, during which Doublegun Preservation will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and all shipping costs.
