Description: Engraved AUGUSTE FRANCOTTE SxS Hammerless Shotgun ANTIQUE 12 Gauge Made In 1896 with LEATHER CASE Here we present an antique engraved Auguste Francotte side by side hammerless shotgun in 12 Gauge, made circa 1896 in Belgium. It was at the beginning of the 19th century in 1805 when the Auguste Francotte gun factory was founded. Its founding pre-dates that of both James Purdey and Holland & Holland of London. Today, Auguste Francotte was and is one of the most respected names in good quality guns, known all over the world. The origins of the Francotte guns are closely linked with the Armory of Liege, which had a very high reputation. After having manufactured numerous military guns, Auguste Francotte turned towards the making of high quality sporting guns. Over the years, Francotte guns have been owned by many of the world's industrial leaders, chiefs of state, and the crowned heads of Europe and Asia. The serial number indicates it was manufactured in 1896 and features engraving on the frame and Damascus barrels! The overall condition is near fine. Matching numbers. Fine, bright bores.
