John Dickson & Son 12 Bore Round Action Ejector – No. 2 of a Pair - "For the Glorious 12th
Description: *** SOLD *** Round Action Dicksons are increasingly hard to source these days and MacNab is pleased to offer this vintage Round Action in its oak & leather case with maker’s label, pewter oil bottle and Dickson snap caps. Dickson no. 5073 was delivered to its original owner on January 9, 1899 as the second gun of a composed pair. Its patent use number is 731 and while it sports gold cocking indicators it has the improved ejectors that were introduced at the turn of the 19th century and the flowing Dickson banner on the action sides. The barrels, toplever, safety button, and trigger guard have been expertly reblacked. The brushed finish on the action along with the highly figured French walnut stock and forearm make it a very handsome gun indeed. The gun is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. Weighs 6lb 7oz. *** The 28” sleeved barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and were TIG welded to minimize the visibility of the seam. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, 2-1/2” ammunition is being imported into the US again, principally from Gamebore and RST is producing these desirable low pressure shotshells as well. The bores are shiny and bright. The barrels are topped by a raised solid tapered concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “John Dickson & Son. 63 Princes Street. Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.011 for Quarter choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is bored 0.733 and has a constriction of 0.022 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. *** The straight grip stock and forearm are made of highly figured French walnut. The gold initial plate features the crest of the illustrious Nelson family of Edinburgh and carries the Latin motto “ Virtute et Votis” which translates to “Courage and Strength”. Stock dimensions are 14-1/2” including an excellent condition 1” leather pad by 1-1/2” by 2-3/8*. Cast off for the righthand shot. *** If you have ever shot over a Scottish grouse moor then you already know why you should own this gun. Round Actions are scarce and time is short. Isn’t time to reward yourself? *** Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense. SOLD |
