Darne V19 20 Gauge – VINTAGE FIREARMS INC, 1930’s, 5LBS. 3OZ., FIGURED FRENCH WALNUT
Description: Darne V19 20 Gauge Side by Side 1930’s, 5LBS. 3OZ., FIGURED FRENCH WALNUT General Specs: Darne, Year 1930's, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 2oz, SxS Serial Number: ss900 What a unique shotgun we have in the Darne (the “e” at the end is silent), a creation of Frenchman Regis Darne of Saint Etienne, France in 1893. A distinct departure from anything we side x side lovers are familiar with, having a sliding breech and barrels that are stationary and do not pivot. The Darne design is rock solid, and well proven with no real changes or improvements in the design since the turn of the century in 1900. When you examine the action and engineering of this shotgun you realize why there have been no changes…it is perfect in its present form! The Darne was built in several different quality levels and models; the Halifax (economy grade), the R series (moderate décor) and the V series, the luxury model. This fine little gun, snSS900 built around 1930, is the V19 from Darne’s highest model line, with finely figured French walnut, 90% coverage of delicate hand-cut rose and scroll engraving, deeply chiseled foliate fences, engraving wedges on the barrels, articulated triggers, hidden top toggle pin, horn inlay at the tip of the forend, and a checkered horn butt plate. The 27” barrels are choked IC/M with mirror bores, restored to 100% rust blue, and have a unique swamped rib and no bottom rib, as was their design. The gun is stocked to 15” LOP to the original horn butt plate with the customary worm holes known to horn buttplates (we can install a new butt plate if you don’t like the charm of the original), and 2 ¾” drop at heel, 1 5/8” drop at heel, ¼” cast off. At 5lbs. 3oz. I don’t know if you could find a lighter, better balanced upland gun to carry afield. The sliding breech has ejector functions and is very easy to operate and maintain, being lightning fast to load and unload. The V series have a push button barrel release that allows the barrels to be removed from the action easily for inspection, maintenance, and casing. The Darne is not a common gun, and the V Series is quite rare, especially early guns from between the wars. There is a cult following of these guns, as they are a delight to carry afield for your upland pursuits and quite a crowd pleaser at the gun club. They are still being produced today and a Darne V19 20ga. can be bought at a starting price of $15,000. This gun has been restored to new inside and out by Geoffrey Gournet, the present U.S. retailer, and only needs a new home…nothing else. We have listed this gun to sell at a very attractive price. This is a great tangible asset investment that will continue to increase in value as you enjoy its use. Thanks for looking!
