Description: SCARCE Antique COLT Model 1883 Hammerless SHOTGUN Made in 1889 with Damascus Barrels Here we present an antique Colt Model 1883 Hammerless Double Barrel Shotgun, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1889. The Model 1883 was made from 1883 to 1895, with approximately 7,360 manufactured. These double barrel shotguns were often custom made to order and fitted with Damascus barrels from 28 to 32 inches in length. This particular shotgun has had its barrels shortened. According to one source, “the Hammerless Model 1883 ranks among the best grade doubles produced in the entire American arms trade. The limited number completed and the great pains devoted to handling specific orders from often fussy shooters means that a considerable degree of quality and variety is evident in the Model 1883 series.” The barrel address is “COLT’S PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT USA”. The underside of the frame is marked “PATENTED/AUG.22 SEPT.19 1882”. It has 2 ¾” chambers, a single extractor, open chokes, and a 14” LOP. The overall condition is good. The Damascene pattern remains strong. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The walnut stock is in good condition and remains strong. The bores are gray with light speckling throughout. The action on the left/rear trigger/left barrel is excellent. The action for the right/front trigger/right barrel is not currently functional. Own the original!
