Rare COLT Model 1883 Hammerless Shotgun - Damascus Steel
Description: Rare Antique COLT Model 1883 Hammerless SHOTGUN with Damascus Barrels! Colt Model 1883 Hammerless Double Barrel Shotgun, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut. The Model 1883 was made from 1883 to 1895, with approximately 7,360 manufactured. These double barrel shotguns were often custom made to order and fitted with Damascus barrels, as this one is, from 28 to 32 inches in length. This is the gun that started the turn of the centrury fued between Colt and Winchester which led to Colt sticking to handguns and Winchester to long guns. This 120+ year old gun has been well used, imagine the stories this gun could tell!! Decades of use is shown by worn checkering, a repaired stock and small bulge and dent in the barrel near the end. The cracked stock features a very old vintage repair in the grip area, see photos. This gun is missing some origional screws and will make a great "over the fireplace" gun and be a great story piece. The engraving and damascus pattern is worn, but still visible. The barrel address is “COLT’S PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT USA”. The underside of the frame is marked “PATENTED/AUG.22 SEPT.19 1882”. The gun is fitted with 2 ¾ chambers, improved cylinder/modified chokes. The numbers match, action is tight left to right, and very free up and down, locks up solid. The but pad is not origional, see pics. This very handsome shotgun is among finest firearms made in Colt’s long history and ranks among the best grade doubles produced in the entire American arms trade. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 28 inches. Caliber: 12 Gauge Overall condition as seen in photos.
