The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in plain-Jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped. Browning did not introduce the Superposed in the .410 bore until 1960. From 1960 to 1966 there were a total of only 1100 .410 guns made in all grades and configurations with the precious long tang round knob pistol grip stock. LESS THAN 300 WERE PRODUCED AS GRADE 1 FIELD GUNS WITH THE FIELD STYLE FOREND. MOST WERE MADE AS THE LESS DESIRABLE SKEET GUN WITH BEAVERTAIL FOREND. Many of the .410 bore guns you do find are salt wood guns produced with the short trigger guard tang and either round knob or square knob stocks late in 1966 through 1972. Many guns will have cut stocks, recoil pads, guns with lots of wear. The gun we have here, sn757 J4 made in early 1964, is very special, as it is in VERY HIGH CONDITION WITH 98% BLUE AND WOOD FINISH. The buttstock has never been altered and has the factory buttplate with slight curve to the butt and only a few handling marks. The barrels are tight like a new gun on face and hinge. The wood has virtually all the original factory finish. The barrels are 26 3/8” length choked SKEET 1 AND SKEET 2, the ultimate quail, grouse, woodcock, and preserve pheasant gun. It is just at home on the skeet range and clays course as it is in the field. The round knob Prince of Wales style grip with the long tang trigger guard is by far the most sought-after version of this Superposed, as part way through 1966 they changed to the short tang and had the infamous saltwood problems that do not exist in this gun. The screws are excellent, and the gold-plated trigger retains most all the gold finish. This is a premium, hard to find gun. These little .410 bore Superposed guns keep going up in value and make a great investment as you enjoy its use. Whether in the field for upland game or on the clays course breaking targets, this Belgium Browning is a very good investment. The Superposed was a true hand-fitted, hand engraved, hand checkered, finely made European shotgun that has earned its place in history as the most successful over/under in the 20th century. See specifications below. Don’t miss out on this one as it is priced to sell. Thanks for looking!
