Provenance:
Invoice #125521 sold 9/24/59 according to the Lenny Rees-signed BrowninG Letter which indicates it was originally F/F - as you can see in photo 15, it is stamped F/M. Draw your own conclusions. I'm not sharing the full serial number because you won't be able to get information from BrowninG on this listing before it sells, anyway. If you buy the gun and want your own letter - give that invoice number to BrowninG archives and request one. Otherwise, If you're a really knowledgeable collector (and do-so for the right reasons), then you shouldn't need documentation to confirm what any true connoisseur of the Superposed can clearly see. If not, then keep studying the history and as many physical examples as you have opportunity to. There are no shortcuts to hard-won knowledge and experience and development of good instincts which are largely a product of missed opportunities or past mistakes. Happy Hunting!
The gun speaks for itself. No commentary necessary. It's not perfect and I'm not asking a fantasy price. Photos are indicative of general condition - it's been priced to reflect a few 'standard' imperfections of a used, but very well-kept example. The scale of these small-frame superposed is just magical. Factor 'that' in.
Regarding Inquiries:
As a collector, researcher, and shooter of the Superposed, I understand the importance of verifying as many details as possible. I have attempted to represent my items accurately and price them fairly given my current knowledge of FN/BrowninG Superposed production history and details, with a keen recognition and appreciation for the ‘factory’ standards of quality in all aspects. Collectors know that the actual condition/details can only be confirmed, (and either agree or disagree with the sellers’ valuation), via personal inspection – so it is pointless to waste time (buyer’s and seller’s) making a counter-offer or an attempt to negotiate without benefit of in-person review. Simply put, under NO circumstances will I entertain lower offers. This piece is purposely-priced to sell, to a very limited market - those who actually know and appreciate what they're looking at. I don’t price items high so I can come-down to a comfort level (with price and/or with what is being offered) of a buyer lacking knowledge or confidence at this stage in their collecting career, OR to make egotists feel 'good' about getting the better of someone else. Sorry, but I neither have time for indecision nor tolerance for 'gamesmanship'. I know what I'm offering and am confident in that knowledge and my valuation (i.e., artistic, aesthetic, and historical value). I'm not the least bit interested with what 'market' anyone else plays (or thinks they have figured-out) and therefore am not concerned with whatever monetary values or re-sale potential other buyers base their 'business plan' on. I've made buying quite simple - here's the nicest original Gr III 28” 20ga you'll likely run across (in the next few years) - if you want it - this is THE price - send me a check and FFL - Done deal - it's yours! No worries about what other buyers might offer because I won't accept any. If you don't agree with my valuation, just return it. I also reserve the right to refuse selling this gun to anyone I choose NOT to. It's not always about money.
Transaction Details:
Once a buyer notifies me and commits to pursue purchase, I will provide an address for mailing of funds and a current copy of the receiving FFL. FFL copy may also be electronically transmitted to my (or my FFL’s) e-mail address (provided upon request). FFL-to-FFL shipments only. Buyer pays $80 UPS Ground shipping costs and insurance costs to lower 48. Payment by Personal Check, Certified Check, or Money Order. Applicable waiting/clearance periods applies to all. I can e-deposit a personal check and usually get clearance the next day. Electronic payments considered for convenience and to expedite the process. The receiver of the shipment shall be responsible for inspecting the package for any signs of impact or damage and notifying the carrier before opening and before the carrier leaves FFL's premises. The listed price basically secures a 3-Day non-shooting, non-disassembly inspection, and return privileges. Item does not leave the receiving FFL’s premises until either transferred to the new owner or returned via that FFL. 3 Day = Day 1 is when UPS delivers the package to your FFL. Day 1 or 2, review the item and make a decision. If you really know what your looking at, it should only take 5 minutes. Day 2 or 3, notify me of your intent to keep or return the item. Day 3 (if returning the item), provide a tracking number and confirmation of insurance for the declared value (listed price) and have your FFL get it on UPS ‘pick-up’ before the end of business hours. If you are not satisfied with the item as priced, just notify me and I will provide a return FFL address. Return item in the same condition and as packaged and insured for purchase amount to my FFL holder. I will re-inspect the item and refund the sale price less my FFL’s re-transfer fees ($35) if the item's condition is verified 'as-sent'. For serious collectors, feel free to ask questions and request photos of specific views via e-mail feature below. Otherwise, please be respectful of my time. I've willingly shared fact-based research and knowledge about this gun, to the best of my ability and experience. I can't imagine any part of this presentation that requires clarification.
