Purdey 12 Ga single shot fowler produced  1824, with 30in. three stage octagonal to polygonal to round barrel, the top flat at the breech engraved 'PURDEY, PRINCES ST. LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON' (refreshed), patent breech with two platinum lines and poincon stamped 'PURDEY LONDON', foliate engraved fixed breech with some loss to engraving from flash erosion and pitting, borderline engraved lock with a sunburst to centre top and panels of foliate scroll work and the makers name 'PURDEY' to centre, the cock with dolphin head and engraved to match, the nose worn and partly missing, figured walnut half-stock, with chequered wrist (refreshed) inset with a silver escutcheon initialled 'W.W.', the iron mounts, long tang decorated with foliate engraving, the trigger-guard engraved to match (engraving faint and worn), replacement horn nose-cap, the barrel rebrowned over pitting, particularly at breech, stock refinished with some well executed repairs, contained in a refurbished relined and partitioned green baize lined brass-bound mahogany case, the lid with reproduction Purdey trade card, accessories include a leather shot pouch and a mainspring clamp Condition, Very fine as restored with some early pitting evident and several wood splices. Mechanically fine. Case is with partitions is good with faded exterior finish.
