Description: 1800s ENGRAVED Antique German Percussion Back Action SxS 16 Gauge Shotgun Mid-1800s Double Barrel Fowling Gun Here we present an antique German Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Hammer Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century at Suhl. This piece features German engraving on the back action locks and a carved wooden trigger guard. The left side of the butt stock has a generous cheek rest. This double is light and handy and retains its leather sling. This would have been a good gun for fowl or small game hunting. It would have been handy for the farm or homestead protection as well. And then, as it is now, two shots were always better than one! The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Reflective, smooth bore. There is a light ding near the ramrod tube. Solid stock with less than average wear and sharp wrist checking. Deep engravings in the lock. The wooden trigger guard is intact. Good leather sling. Even, smooth brown barrel patina.
