A 10 Bore Percussion Double Barreled Sporting Gun by William Cashmore Circa 1850
Description: A very rare William Cashmore muzzle loading 10 bore percussion double barreled sporting gun by William Cashmore. What is usualy seen are the William Cashmore breech loading guns which thrived during the heyday of the British gun trade and are loved by collectors but the early muzzle loaders are rare. William cashmore born 1819 and married Sarah Bland daughter of Edwin Bland, gun finisher started his Birmingham business as a gun and rifle maker in 1847. Sarah's brother Thomas Bland who was also a gun maker, and the two families collaborated on developments. There were engravers in both the Cashmore and Bland families. They had two daugthers and four sons one being William JR who working with his father started developing breech loaders and the rest is history. This shothun was made circa 1850 with 30in browened laminated barrels, bead fore-sight , scroll engraving to rib-end and top tang, border, scroll and gamescene. Engraved locks signed on the bars 'WILL'M CASHMORE" scroll engraved hammers, chequered walnut staight hand half stock, iron furniture and original brass-tipped ramrod.
