European Fowling Piece with “REAL TWIST” Marked Barrel Rib!

Here we present an antique Belgian Double Barrel Side by Side Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1860s in Liege, Belgium. During this era, there were many English and Belgian gunmakers who were capitalizing on the eager markets in the United States. This 12-gauge fowling piece was a very popular gauge, due to the ability to use it for small or medium size game, along with waterfowl. Its relatively short 30-inch barrel made for easy hunting in the dense woods or traipsing through the marsh looking for ducks and geese. This would have been a staple of most homesteads hanging over the mantle during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s and after.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. Good, clear bore with an aged patina. The stock is solid with nice checking and contains less than expected wear. A nice brown patina covers the twist barrels. This example is lightly engraved on the locks and hammers.
