Description: Antique BELGIAN 16 Gauge PINFIRE Side x Side Double Barrel HAMMER Shotgun Nicely ENGRAVED 16 Gauge HAMMER GUN! Here we present a Belgian made Pinfire Side by Side Hammer Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1870s in Belgium. This shotgun is nicely engraved with checkered stocks. In 1835, notable gun maker and inventor Casimir Lefaucheux patented one of the first self-contained firearms cartridges. This very early design included a case with ball, powder and primer, but what made it different from what was to come later in cartridge development was the “firing pin” that projected out of the side of the case. It was this pin that was struck and detonated the primer inside. These were very popular in Europe until the end of the century when centerfire took over completely. The overall condition is good. Original patina. Strong action. Semi-bright bores, remain in good shape. Solid stock with an average amount of dents and dings, the checkering remains sharp. Detailed engravings remain sharp on the frame, trigger guard, locks, and hammers. Wonderful Damascus barrels. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
