BIG GAME Antique Side by Side .38 Perc. Two Trigger DOUBLE RIFLE Peep Sight Mid-1800s MEDIUM to LARGE GAME Double Rifle
Description: BIG GAME Antique Side by Side .38 Perc. Two Trigger DOUBLE RIFLE Peep Sight Mid-1800s MEDIUM to LARGE GAME Double Rifle Here we present an antique Side by Side Percussion Double Rifle, made circa the mid-19th century. The double rifle, also known as the double-barreled rifle, is a rifle with two barrels mounted parallel to each other. Synonymous with big game hunting in Africa and India, the double rifle is a purely sporting weapon with no military heritage. The development of the double rifle has always followed the development of the double-barreled shotgun, the two are generally very similar but the stresses of firing a solid projectile are far greater than shot. The first double-barreled muskets were created in the 1830s when deer stalking became popular in Scotland. Previously single barreled weapons had been used but, recognizing the need for a rapid second shot to dispatch a wounded animal, double-barreled muskets were built along the same format as double-barreled shotguns already in common use. This specimen is a scarce example of an American double rifle from this period. This side by side gun features both barrels in .38 caliber. The barrels are a fairly average in length at 28 inches. This gun also features double triggers. This gun would have been intended for hunting medium to large and perhaps dangerous game, much like a “Cape” gun. The overall condition is good. This example has a pleasant patina. Strong action with modern nipple replacements. The bore is dim and remains in good shape. Solid stock throughout and a patchbox is present on both left and right sides of the buttstock. Adjustable rear peep. Some metal parts are lightly engraved. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 28 inches. Caliber: .38 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1550 #230125 SOLD Antique: Yes |
