SCARCE MODEL 57 .22 LR BOLT RIFLE WITH LYMAN 42W RECEIVER SIGHT, #23XXX, MADE 1931

Description:
SCARCE MODEL 57 .22 LR BOLT RIFLE WITH LYMAN 42W RECEIVER SIGHT, #23XXX, MADE 1931. This was a lighter weight target model that was introduced in 1926 and discontinued in 1936. Only 19,281 were made and unaltered, fine condition examples are hard to find. This one has the correct Lyman receiver sight, folding leaf rear sight and blade front sight. The barrel band has the correct patent marking and all barrel markings are sharp. It has not been drilled/tapped for scope or altered in any way. The stock is generally excellent and shows only light handling. It retains most of the original finish and is fitted with the correct checkered steel butt plate. The barrel shows some scattered brown/flaking mainly ahead of the receiver, but has not been steel-wooled or cleaned. Action is tight. Complete with Winchester marked 5-round magazine. Trigger guard/bottom metal blue aged/mixing heavily brown-gray. Bore is bright and excellent. A very difficult to find 94 year old Winchester .22 LR repeater. Often found with the Lyman sight missing. This is one of the better ones I've seen.
