Winchester One of a Thousand Set
Description: Ill start off with all the details about this set. This is staright from Winchester public relation departments in 1979. Two classic Winchester lever action firearms, the venerable model 94 and the popular Model 9422 will be paired in a matched set of one thousand, a special collector issue to be introduced during the last half of 1979 by the winchecter group of Olin corporation. The new matched set of one thousand was announced by Dr. Bruce E. Hill, group vice president of marketing, who said that "The introduction marks a Winchester milestone: the first production sets of firearms with matchind rather than consective serial numbers in its 113 year history". With production limited only to 1000 units, " Dr. Hill observed, "the matched sets are certian to trigger an enthusatic reception among serious collectors of winchester firearms.'' The guns in each set have a rich satin gold finish on their recievers, finger levers, fore-end caps, lower tangs and hammers. The buttstocks and forearms are selected American walnut are emellished with deep cut checkering in a new spade design patterened after the checkering that adorned deluxe Winchester rifles at the turn of the century. Both guns are fitted with deep blue crecent steel butplates. The center fire half of the matched set of one thousand, the model 94, comes in traditional 30-30 caliber. Triple relief etched engravings decorate the gun reciever. Two bull elk engaged in fierce combat during the rut, while a pair of cow elk browse unconcered nearby, make up the scene on the left of the reciever. The opposite side depicts a sow grizzly industriously fishing a fast flowing stream as her two cubs watch from the bank. Oak leaf and acorn borders enhance both sides. The guns 24 inch round taperen barrel and full legnth magazine tube are finished in a high polished deep blue luster. A blade front sight and a buckhorn rear sight top the barrel wich bears a gold colored inscription on the right side designating it as the : "Matched Set of One Thousand." The opposite side carries the model number identification. The Model 9422, the rimfire half of the pair, comes in Winchester 22 magnum rimfire caliber and represents the first time the popular lever action rifle has been produced as a special issue firearm for the US market. Like its matched set counterpart, the Model 9422 is decorated with triple relief etched engravings. The left side of the reciever shows a cottontail rabbit hotly pursued by a brace of beagles, while the opposite side portrays a gray squirrel leaping from one oak branch to another. The decorative oak leak and acorn leaf motif edges both sides of the reciever. The 20 and 1/2 inch round tapered barrel, with blade front and full buckhorn rear sights, is inscribed in similar style to its companion piece. The gun's magazine tube rod is made of brass to complement the recievers satin gold finish. Each matched set of one thousand bears identical serial numbers, and is precieded by prefix letters, MC designating the centerfire rifle an MR designating the rimfire. The guns come with a fitted red velvet lined dark stained wood case, complete with polished brass hardware and lock and key. I left out the last part because the leatherette instruction manual isn't present. The instruction manuals are definatly present and seem to be of the corrent age, I assume it was a leather pouch that the mauals were placed inside. In 1979 these had a retail price of 3000$. The .22 is in immaculate shape. I havent fould a bad spot on barrel, wood or reciever. The 30-30 has some very light scratches in the right side of the buttstock, I pictured them but its quite hard to see. The barrel of the 30-30 also has a small scratch on the end of the barrel, pictured as well. The wood case has a small chip and some scratches on the top nothing major. To my knowledge these guns were never fired. Overall in very great shape for the age. There not 100 percent perfect but pretty darn close. I think you would be very impressed to have these displayed in your home. If you feel like you need aditional pictures please let me know. I want you to be completly satisfied with your purchase. You dont see these come up for sale much at all. SOLD Rifle Caliber: .22 WMR (.22 Magnum) Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 94 Condition: Great |
