Pre-War Winchester Model 70 in .22 HORNET, Made in 1943
Description:
Nice, Pre War Winchester Model 70 Rifle Chambered in .22 Hornet, made in 1943. This 22 Hornet is a really nice, clean example of a classic Pre-War Model 70. Even though it is 81 years old, it is in original condition with minimal wear on the bluing and the wood. The only alteration that has been done is that the rear receiver has been professionaly drilled and tapped for mounting a scope. It comes with the original Lyman Receiver sight and has the factory cutout on the stock to accomodate it. I bought this rifle many years ago along with a .220 Swift that I have already listed. I love these pre-war Model 70s. The checkering is cut finer, at 22 lines per inch. The postwar version has checkering that is more coarse. Unlike the 220 Swift, this rifle has seen little use and has only monor scratches in the stock and the metal is gorgeous with that soft rust blue that they put on the Pre-War rifles and on all of the Super Grade rifles. The bore is in excellent shape and is accurate. The Hornet is a fun caliber to shoot, having little recoil. The bolt is numbered to the receiver and has the special pusher to chamber the diminuitive round. The Hornet was one of the original chamberings in the model 70 and it was the smallest. Hornets represented about 2.5% of total production, or about Fourteen thousand guns. Many have been converted to other calibers making an original a fairly scarce find, especially in this condition. Please check out the photos, and contact me with questions. This is a "Good One".
