Pre War Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 375 Magnum. Early gun w/ ST barrel, Supreme!
SALE PENDING
Description:
Among the rarest and most coveted of the early, supreme quality Pre Wars; This is a Winchester Model 70 .375 (H&H) Magnum with a correct 24" ramped, straight tapered barrel in superb condition.
These were carryover barrels from its predecessor Model 54 production and were issued on these first 375s and the even rarer first issue "ramped" Target rifles. Very few 375s were issued in this barrel profile before transitioning to the more familiar 25" C-1 profile around mid 1938 based on my observation.
This one is S/N 13048 with matching scribed bolt made in 1938.
Beautiful, original condition throughoughout showing 98% Blue and Varnish. It also has a perfect appearing bore, along with butter smooth and ultra crisp mechanics.
Correct and essential undrilled/unrepaired rear receiver bridge.
There is a soft, factory issued recoil pad as usual which shows some common slight bulging/distortion from bearing the weight of prolonged storage.
The wood is super nice with what I call the more honey type color, tight grain, and a bit of vertical tiger striping more frequently seen on guns from this era.
The sights are original issue with a fully inletted Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight that has all matching component #s. There is a correct Lyman 12S filler in the barrel dovetail. The drill holes on top of the barrel are also original and spaced for the target scope blocks of the day.
I have only seen one other as good as this one, and it's in my safe! Get it while you can.
