With our retail shop and gallery only about 17 miles away from the original Winchester factory, and over our nearly 5 decades in the business we have had the pleasure to offer many fine firearms from that company’s manufacture.
Offered here for sale is a very fine opportunity for the Winchester collector to obtain a scarce Winchester lever action. Winchester introduced the Model 55 in June of the year 1924. This was a brand new variant of the Model 94 Sporting Rifle, and it was apparently introduced to fill the gap between the standard Model 94 Sporting Rifle with its 26-inch barrel and the standard Model 94 Carbine with its 20-inch barrel. It was offered in calibers 30 W.C.F., 25-35 W.C.F., and 32 W.S. with a 24-inch rapid taper nickel steel barrel.
Production of the Model 55 began on June 26th, 1924 and it ended in late December of 1932. The total production is estimated to be only 20,580 rifles.
Initially, the Model 55 was serialized in its own serial number range, with serial numbers 1 – 12002 completed through March 7th, 1928. This specimen, serial number 9102 was made in that last year before serialization with the Model 94 was combined. This is a TAKEDOWN model with 24” barrel. DESIRABLE 25-35 caliber. In very good condition for its age the specimen retains almost all blued finish on its barrel (dulling in spots but all there). Excellent bore. The receiver has just traces of original finish. The markings are sharp overall. The rifle has early Marbles rear and front sights. The wood is SOLID with not a great deal of use. A fine specimen which we do not encounter often even here with our shop and gallery so close to the original Winchester factory.

Offered here for sale is a very fine opportunity for the Winchester collector to obtain a scarce Winchester lever action. Winchester introduced the Model 55 in June of the year 1924. This was a brand new variant of the Model 94 Sporting Rifle, and it was apparently introduced to fill the gap between the standard Model 94 Sporting Rifle with its 26-inch barrel and the standard Model 94 Carbine with its 20-inch barrel. It was offered in calibers 30 W.C.F., 25-35 W.C.F., and 32 W.S. with a 24-inch rapid taper nickel steel barrel.
Production of the Model 55 began on June 26th, 1924 and it ended in late December of 1932. The total production is estimated to be only 20,580 rifles.
Initially, the Model 55 was serialized in its own serial number range, with serial numbers 1 – 12002 completed through March 7th, 1928. This specimen, serial number 9102 was made in that last year before serialization with the Model 94 was combined. This is a TAKEDOWN model with 24” barrel. DESIRABLE 25-35 caliber. In very good condition for its age the specimen retains almost all blued finish on its barrel (dulling in spots but all there). Excellent bore. The receiver has just traces of original finish. The markings are sharp overall. The rifle has early Marbles rear and front sights. The wood is SOLID with not a great deal of use. A fine specimen which we do not encounter often even here with our shop and gallery so close to the original Winchester factory.
