Description: Scarce, Fine TAKEDOWN WINCHESTER Model 1895 .30-06 LEVER ACTION Rifle C&R 1913 Manufactured Favorite of Hunters & Lawmen Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Takedown Rifle manufactured in 1913 in New Haven, Connecticut, and chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The Model 1895 was the first Winchester rifle to feature a box magazine located underneath the action instead of the tubular magazine design, which had remained fundamentally unchanged from the Winchester 1866. This allowed the rifle to safely chamber military and hunting cartridges with pointed bullets. The M1895 was also the last of the lever-action rifles to be designed by John Moses Browning and featured a rear locking bolt as in his previous designs dating back to the Winchester 1886. The M1895 was the strongest lever-action rifle Winchester had produced, designed to handle the increased pressures generated by the more powerful smokeless powder cartridges entering common use at the time of its introduction. Many hunters of this period loved the Model 1895 such as President Theodore Roosevelt, Martin & Osa Johnson, Charles Cottar, and Stewart Edward White. Law enforcement groups such as the Arizona & Texas Rangers also favored these sleek, box magazine-fed rifles in powerful new smokeless cartridges. The overall condition is fine. Very nice refinish on the receiver. The action is excellent and smooth. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The walnut stock is solid, showing a little wear. The front and rear sights have been replaced. There was once a receiver mounted sight that was removed and the holes filled with screws on the left side.
