WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE IN CALIBER 40-82
Description:
30 inch octagon barrel chambered in 40-82 WCF caliber with a full length magazine tube. Very good bore. Sights include a Lyman beaded blade front with a blank in the rear barrel slot and a folding tang. Barrel and magazine tube retain about 85% original blue. Barrel has "Browning Brothers Ogden Utah" in front of the rear dovetail. Case colored receiver has turned mostly a nickel/ light brown color with good traces of case color. Hammer and lever also retain traces of case colors. Set trigger functions properly. Nice crisp action. Walnut stocks show some use but are sound and solid. Most original varnish remains. Rifle style buttplate. The 30 inch barrel is not mentioned on the research form, but could very well have been done by the Browning Brothers who were agents for Winchester at the time and very capable of performing the job. Comes with a Cody Museum Research Form stating it was made in 1889.
