Winchester 1886 Deluxe Lever Action takedown Cody lettered in 45-70 – This is a magnificent example of a large game gun manufactured in 1904. It has a 22” barrel with matte rib considered a "lightweight" version and the magazine tube is a 3/4 length version. The rear sight is a Lyman 21 which was considered a special order item. The wood is fancy checkered walnut with pistol grip, also considered special order. The current owner is the third to possess this rifle. It came out of Maine where it certainly took many animals during its stay there.
The bluing is at 92-95% showing typical wear around the receiver, lever, load gate and muzzle. The case colored finish is very visable on the hammer and cocking lever. There are no dents or cracks in the deluxe wood furnishings. The wood and checkering have not been refinished. The barrel is very clean with no pitting. There is a Cody Firearms Museum letter verifying the authenticity of this gun dated June 24th, 2004.
