Description:
A relatively scarce Winchester as only 2,497 carbines were made in this caliber. 22 inch round barrel chambered in 45-60 caliber with a bore that shows patches of light oxidation throughout with visible rifling. Sights include a standard blade front and a flip up ladder rear sight that is a little loose in the dovetail. The metal surfaces are mostly a gun metal and plum/brown color while showing a little pin prick pitting. Evidence of an old braised repair on the lever loop. Good legible markings and barrel address. The walnut stocks are in good condition with a fair amount of wear to them. A little shy at the wrist with numerous fine cracks in the wrist as well. Wood is also shy at the buttplate. Dust cover is also a little loose and saddle ring is present. The action is a little sluggish but does perform correctly. This is a good example of a harder to find carbine that shows lots of old west character from 1881.
