Winchester Model 1876 early "open top" 45-75. Scarce. Antique.
Description: ***SOLD*** Very scarce, early model '76 as issued with an "open topped" receiver. (No dust cover). Caliber 45-75. S/N 5753 made in 1878 (Antique). 28" round straight taper barrel with full length magazine tube. The original metal finish has taken on an even, mottled grey patina overall. The wood is in good shape with no major gouges nor any structural discrepancies. It has had a topcoat of oil over the years, and there is a bit of dark water staining at the buttplate transition, but it does not appear to have been sanded to any extent, if at all. The crescent buttplate has a smooth operating trap door. (no cleaning rods present). Original sights consist of a German silver up front and a correct 1000 yd. ladder stamped 1876 in the rear. The bore is surprisingly excellent on this rifle, showing bright with strong rifling and no notable issues at all. The mechanical functions are also smooth, strong, and crisp. I had originally listed this rifle with a slight lever droop which I have now diagnosed and repaired with an identical original Winchester spring from a donor rifle. Everything works perfectly now. A hard to find, nearly 150 y.o. rifle that remains in pretty solid and respectable condition! Please add $100 for expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska. SOLD Antique: Yes |
