About Us: I have been collecting firearms for over 40 years. My interests are Winchester rifles in models 1892 and 1894 especially with shorter than standard barrels. I have also written four books on Newton rifles and have interest in all models of those rifles. newtonrifles
Winchester 1873 Short Carbine, Trapper, 16 ", 44 WCF, rifle butt/trapdoor, 1907
Description: This is a Winchester 1873 short carbine, caliber 44 WCF with a 16" barrel. Made in 1907, 6070xxB. It has a factory letter that reads as follows; (15 inch barrel carbine, 44 caliber, Rifle butt, in 1909 15 inch barrel changed to 16 inch barrel in 44 caliber.) The upper tang has model marks and is tapped for a tang sight. (It was made in 1906, sorry for error)The carbine rear sight is 2.25" from the reciever and is marked 0 to 9. The front of the receiver is filed off, presumably by someone who thought they needed a longer sight on the carbine. It has the short 7.5" fore arm. The caliber marks are on the top of the barrel near the receiver. The only barrel marks left are a faint remainder of the "1860". The rest of the markings have been cleaned off. This is a 3rd model and weighs 6.75 lbs. The magazine capacity is 9 caratridges and it has 6 groove rifling in the barrel. The bore is poor. It has the correct step in the forward top of the receiver. It has a rifle butt with a trapdoor. The stock is in fair condition and the fore arm as well with a dent and darkening of the front bottom of the fore arm. The receiver, barrel and magazine are a gray patina. The screws are very good. The action is smooth and tight. This carbine is in good condition considering it is 112 years old. Buyer pays shipping. Box is 52x4x8 and will weigh about 10 lbs from 49755.
