FACTORY ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SHORT RIFLE IN CALIBER 44-40
Description:
20 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 WCF caliber with full length magazine tube. A very good bore with shine and good rifling with light roughness. Sights include a gold gilt Beach combination front and an "1873" marked sporting leaf rear. Barrel and mag tube retain about 30% thinning blue turning a plum/brown color. Receiver has about 20% case color remaining with stronger colors in the protected areas. Good colors on the hammer with traces on the lever. $2.00 engraving shows scrolls on the frame, dust cover and forend cap with a running buck on the left side plate. Set trigger that functions. Checkered fancy walnut straight grip stocks with the shorter style forearm to accompany a 20 inch barrel. Refinished stock has a repair in the wrist area that is sound and solid. Rifle style buttplate. Sling swivel is missing from the forearm cap but is present on the buttstock. Factory engraved Model 1873 rifles don't come round very often and this one was made in 1887.
