Description: This is a pretty sharp, honest Winchester Model 1895 - chambered in the rarest caliber for this rifle, the 40-72. This rifle according to the Cody research was built and shipped in 1902. The rifle is all original, unmessed with, the wood is unsanded. The original blue varies from good in protected areas, fading color in others, to plumbish on the barrel to a smooth brownish patina on the lever and areas with more carry and contact. The 26" tapered full octagon barrel has good edges, sharp lettering and a very good bore. The bore is better than average - it has good strong lands and grooves the whole way, with some normal wear and just the occaisional , light scattered small spots of erosion. I believe this bore could shine up a bit better, and with the right cast bullets, or soft copper jacketed Hawk bullets it would be a great shooter - ready to take an elk or bear again... The action is smooth, and positive, closing up like a vault door. The metal is still smooth, with small scattered areas of dings, a minor spot or two or corrosion - but very nice for a Winchester built for use in 1902. The wood is solid, tight corners at the wrist, proud of the metal. It shows many small impressions, marks, small scratches and scars - but better than average. Overall this is just a great looking, honest Winchester 1895 in the 40-72! Look around - you just don't see these come out of a collection very often. ***** This is a Modern Gun - must ship to a C&R/FFL for transfer. Please know your local laws before buying - price will include shipping and full insurance ***** Thanks
